Privacy policy

Sparkbreaker is made by Harness the Spark Ltd. This page explains what we do and do not collect, on this website and in the Sparkbreaker app.
Who we are
Harness the Spark Ltd ("we", "us") is the data controller. Contact: lisa@harnessthespark.com. Our wider policy for other Harness the Spark products is at harnessthespark.com/privacy.
This website
- We do not use analytics, advertising, tracking cookies or social media pixels.
- The site has no forms. If you email us to ask for early access, we receive your email address, your name if it appears in your email, and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and to tell you when Sparkbreaker is ready. We do not add you to any other list.
- Like any web server, ours keeps standard logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and to keep the site running.
- Fonts and images are served from our own server. Nothing is loaded from Google or other third parties.
- The site is hosted on our own server in Germany.
When you buy
- Payment is taken by Stripe on its own checkout page. We never see your card details. Stripe tells us that you paid and gives us your email address.
- We keep your email address, the date, and the single-use download link we issued, so we can send you the app, replace a link that stops working, and handle a refund.
- We send your download email through Resend, our email provider.
- Stripe and Resend each handle your data under their own privacy policies. We do not sell or share your details with anyone else.
The Sparkbreaker app
- Sparkbreaker runs on your computer. It closes AI apps, blocks the addresses AI tools use, and opens a clean browser.
- It keeps a session record on your computer. The record holds times and app names only: when a session started and ended, which apps were closed or opened, and a client label that you type in. It never holds anything said or typed in a session.
- The record is yours. We do not receive it, and we cannot see it.
- If you put a client's name in a session label, that is your decision as the person using the app. You may prefer initials or a reference.
The Sparkbreaker Time browser extension
Sparkbreaker Time is an optional extension for Chrome and Edge. It works with the Sparkbreaker app, so that time you spend on AI sites in your browser counts towards your daily allowance.
- What it reads. The address of the tab in front of you, so that it can work out the hostname, for example
claude.ai. It keeps only the hostname and throws the rest away. It does not read the page title, the page content, or anything you type. It looks at every ordinary web page you visit, not only AI sites, because the app decides which sites count. Chrome describes the permission it needs (“tabs”) as “read your browsing history”. That wording is Chrome’s. - What it keeps. In your browser, on your computer: a daily total of focused time for each hostname, the labels and settings you choose, and the pairing code if you pair it. You can see the totals in the extension’s dashboard and clear them there at any time. If you export a CSV file, that file is an ordinary download that stays on your computer until you delete it.
- What it sends. Only if you pair it with the Sparkbreaker app. It then sends the hostname of the tab in front of you, or a note that no tab is in front of you, to the app on your own computer (address 127.0.0.1, which never leaves your machine), using a pairing code that only you hold. If you do not pair it, it sends nothing at all.
- What we receive. Nothing. No browsing data, hostnames or usage figures are sent to us or to anyone else. The extension makes no other network requests, and it has no analytics, advertising or tracking.
- Other permissions. “idle” so that time stops counting when you step away, “alarms” to keep the timer ticking, “storage” to keep your totals and settings, and access to 127.0.0.1 on one port so it can talk to the app on your own computer.
- Removing it. Click Disconnect in the extension to remove the pairing code, or remove the extension from your browser. Its stored totals are deleted with it.
How long we keep things
Purchase details (your email address and download record) are deleted automatically 12 months after you buy, or sooner if you ask us to. Stripe keeps its own payment records as the law requires. Early-access emails are kept until you ask us to delete them or until we have told you Sparkbreaker is available, whichever is first. Server logs are kept for a short period for security and then deleted.
Our lawful basis
We reply to your email because you asked us to (steps at your request). We use your purchase details to deliver what you bought and to handle refunds (performing our contract with you). We keep server logs under legitimate interest, to keep the site secure.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask to see, correct, delete or take a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and object to how we use it. Email lisa@harnessthespark.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
What Sparkbreaker does not do
It protects the computer it is installed on. It is not a legal certificate, and it does not replace your own data protection duties.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top.
